Hi, I'm Kelda. I am the host of CBC Toronto News at 11, and a multi-platform journalist, filing stories for television, radio and online.
Prior to that, I was a reporter at CTV London where I shot, wrote and edited stories for the evening newscasts. I also anchored the late night newscast on weekdays, and anchored and produced the weekend shows.
My story Come Sail Away, about a group of people with physical disabilities finding freedom on the water, was the winner of a 2020 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for feature reporting.
In 2017, my two-part story Surviving Genocide, documenting a Rwandan genocide survivor's quest to reunite her family in Canada, was the recipient of a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for news series. That same year, my story Music for Memory was a finalist for the RTDNA Dave Rogers Award for short feature.
My first step into journalism was in Beijing. I was a reporter and anchor at Blue Ocean Network, China’s first independent English-language television news station, and a news presenter and host at China Radio International.
I grew up in Toronto and received a BA Honours degree in English and Cultural Studies from McMaster University.
One of my greatest passions is telling stories, with a penchant for ones focusing on the arts and human interest, and those that aim to better understand diverse communities. My innate curiosity, desire for greater understanding, and adventurous spirit are what drive me to keep exploring.
I have camped overnight at the steepest section of the Great Wall of China, sang karaoke in North Korea's only nightclub, trekked to see the world's last remaining mountain gorillas at Rwanda's border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, and jumped out of a plane with the Canadian military.
